How to Complete the Alabama Continuing Education (CE) Requirements for License Renewal
As a nurse in the state of Alabama, you are required to earn continuing education to renew your active license.
Renewal Requirements
24 contact hours every two years for RNs. Four (4) contact hours of Alabama Board–provided continuing education related to Board functions, the Nurse Practice Act, regulations, professional conduct, and accountability is required for the first license renewal. RN licenses are valid from January 1 of each odd-numbered year and expires December 31 of each even-numbered year.
Register Nurse (RN)
- First renewal
- 4 contact hours of Alabama Board-provided continuing education related to Board functions, the Nurse Practice Act, regulations, professional conduct, and accountability
- Every two years thereafter
- 24 hours of continuing education
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
- First renewal
- 4 contact hours of Alabama Board-provided continuing education related to Board functions, the Nurse Practice Act, regulations, professional conduct, and accountability
- Every two years thereafter
- 24 hours of continuing education
Advanced Practice
- APNs are required to earn six of the required 24 hours in pharmacology.
