License Requirements and Renewal Process

The NMLS Annual Renewal Period begins November 1 and ends December 31 each year. Both institutions and most individual MLOs must renew their licenses through NMLS annually, as per federal regulations. Inactive licenses must be reactivated to maintain an “Active” registration status.

If the renewal process is not completed prior to December 31, the MLO will be placed in an “Inactive” registration status on both NMLS and NMLS Consumer Access. NMLS requires a $30 processing fee for each MLO seeking to renew or reactivate a registration. MLOs who did not complete renewal attestation before December 31 will need to be reactivated, incurring an additional $30 processing fee at the time of reactivation.

MLOs will receive a notification from NMLS confirming that the renewal or reactivation process is complete. Consult with your primary federal regulator if you have any questions regarding reactivation requirements.

By enrolling in the National Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) 8-Hour Continuing Education Late Renewal Compliance Course at Cameron Academy, you can reactivate your MLO license and ensure continued compliance with federal regulations.
